Prevention of endocarditis update
Further to new guidelines produced by the American Heart Association, TGL liaised with the Heart Foundation and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand and set up a special cross-disciplinary expert group to update the topic in Therapeutic Guidelines.
In summary, the changes are:
- The list of cardiac conditions for which prophylaxis is recommended is much shorter and only includes conditions associated with the highest risk of adverse outcomes from endocarditis.

The list of procedures for which endocarditis prophylaxis should be given is more precise.
